Making Strides of Queens: A Worthy Walk for an Important Cause

AWARENESS-DAYS-MONTHS_BREAST-CANCER_breast-cancer-awareness_JULY_2015

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is an American Cancer Society Event that raises money and awareness for breast cancer. These walks are 3-5 miles long, non-competitive, and lots of fun.

How to Participate

To walk in the event, you can either start a team as a team leader and recruit members to walk with you, or join an existing team. Your team will have a fundraising goal and work together to reach it until the day of the walk.

How to Volunteer

Volunteers do everything from helping out at water stations on the course, helping participants check in, and so more. If you’d like to lend your time, you can do so by signing up online.

How to Donate

If you’d like to make a donation, you have a few options. You can donate to a specific participant, a team, the event in general, or directly to the American Cancer Society. Choose your preference when you donate online.

Join the movement this October and walk for a great cause. If you’re planning to participate, come stay with us at the Courtyard LaGuardia Airport Hotel.

Visit the Museum of Modern Art to See Cutting-Edge Exhibits

Now an extension of MoMA, the PS1 Contemporary Art Center was founded in 1971 and is one of the largest institutions of its kind in the U.S.

Visit this museum weekdays Monday, Thursday and Friday and on weekends, both Saturday and Sunday. They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Here’s what you can expect to see while you’re there.

Exhibitions

Because the museum is all about exhibitions, you’ll never see the same thing twice. A few you can view during the coming 2017 fall season include Maureen Gallace’s genre paintings through September 10, a documentary film from Stanya Kahn (Stand in the Stream) through September 4, and sculptural scenes from Cathy Wilkes starting October 22.

Programs  Paint tubes with colorful paint spilling out

The museum hosts fun programs for any age.

One is Warm-Up, a summer music concert series. Lasting through September 2, 2017. It features a wide array of artists and genres who play on an outdoor stage.

They also host the Young Architects Program, which focuses on boosting young and emerging talent in the field. Each year, a design contest determines who will get the opportunity to develop an outdoor installation at the museum.

There’s plenty more to see at MoMA PS1. Plan on staying with us at the Courtyard LaGuardia Airport Hotel if the Museum of Modern Art is high on your itinerary during your next visit to NYC.
